Lake Nottely is situated at the north end of Union County, Georgia on 4,000 acres of pristine beauty. With the ancient Blue Ridge Mountains in the background, the crystal blue waters are perfect for lazy days on the lake boating, fishing, and/or swimming. Almost 70% of Lake Nottely’s shoreline is under the jurisdiction of the US Forest Service, which means the majority of the lake isn’t and won’t ever be developed.

Among the mountains and valleys of the Chattahoochee National Forest, on the southeastern edge of the Tennessee River watershed, and near the border of North Carolina, you’ll find dozens of coves dotted along the miles of channels that make up the majority of Lake Nottely. Some fun features on the lake include a rope swing that can be found at mile marker three, better known as Davenport Mountain. There are also The Cliffs, which is a popular spot for people to jump in and is a perfect spot for swimming. Another popular spot on Lake Nottely is at Poteete Creek Campground. Here you can camp in a tent or RV, launch your boat, observe wildlife, and swim at the beach.

About nine miles north of the town of Blairsville, you’ll cross an almost 20-foot dam that rises 197 feet high along Nottely Dam Road. Here, you’ll find the deepest and broadest waters which make a perfect spot to drop your anchor and fish for bass or walleye. Public boat access is available on one side of the dam and on the other you can access the 1.7 miles of the Nottely Reservoir Trails, which is a perfect place to hike and bike near the lake. From the overlook at the dam you can take in a spectacular southern view where the water meets the mountains and just across the street, you’ll find a kayak launch and several picnic tables to enjoy.

On the southern tip of the lake, you will find the nearby town of Blairsville. Its picturesque downtown area features adorable shops and delicious eats. Here, you can launch your boat, load up on snacks, and gas up your boat. Don’t have a boat? No problem, they rent pontoons, canoes, kayaks, jet skis, and john boats.
